The number of tourist arrivals in 2013 rose 5.3% on 2012 figures, to 6.27m, marking a second year of recovery for the sector. Visitor numbers had fallen precipitously in 2011, following the uprising that unseated former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, but they recovered strongly in 2012 and with the 2013 increase, arrivals are now less than 10% lower than where they stood in 2010.
